Since 1982, the Brûlerie crew has been offering a coffee experience that’s simply outstanding. Long gone are the days when even the best Quebec baristas served only filter coffee!

Today, the Brûlerie offers a wide variety of different coffees to respond to an ever-changing clientele. That is why you will find micro-batch, single-origin and direct-trade coffees, with their distinctive flavors, sold side by side with the great classics of our industry.

Also, in order to maximize freshness, taste and aroma, we roast all our exclusive coffees in small-batch ovens and our green coffee beans are always stored at our headquarters in a temperature-controlled environment.

To allow the Brûlerie to stay relevant and keep current with best business practices in the ever-changing and complex world of the coffee industry, our team members take part in a rigorous continuing education program.

Our retail division grew out of this quest to continually improve our products and methods, and reflects our passionate desire to offer all our customers superior quality coffees. 

A brief history 

1982

The founder of the Brûleries decides to take the plunge by opening a first retail shop in Sherbrooke, at the Carrefour de l’Estrie. This will be the beginning of a love affair with coffee.

1987

First expansion of activities, with the purchase of a small roaster and the development of a distribution network across the province of Québec. The initial equipment is a small hazelnut roaster modified to process coffee beans. 

1999

Acquisition of the Rôtisseries de café rue Saint-Jean, in Quebec City, which is then transformed into the Brûlerie de Café Québec. The BCQ will be only the second coffee-roaster in all of Canada to be certified FAIR TRADE.

2004

Opening of the Brûlerie Sherbrooke in the downtown area. The Brûlerie has now tripled in size, but continues to use a small roaster, to maximize flavor and freshness.

2010

The family is growing; a few kilometers away in Lennoxville, a new coffee shop is built, to the delight of students and the community alike.

2010

The Brûlerie Laval opens in the Marché Gourmand. To improve the product offering, single-origin and Fair Trade coffees are added to the menu.

2011

Focus on education and training is top priority for the team. Barista classes to improve tasting, roasting, storage methods and much more are part of the continuing education program for employees. Staying on top of trends and cutting-edge methods becomes key for all team members.

2013

The Brûlerie opens its first corporate counter in Montreal. It is located on the premises of a multinational business, whose employees benefit from the expertise of in-house baristas and enjoy privately imported, direct-trade, micro-batch and single-origin coffees.

2014

All of the Brûlerie shops unite under one banner:  Brûleries FARO - Roasting Houses. 

2015

The Brûlerie enters into a partnership with Radio-Canada’s popular TV show, Entrée Principale. This venture led to a visit of coffee plantations in Central America with the show’s host André Robitaille. Click here to follow our adventure and click here to see the products we bought at Las Lajas.

2016

In its sustained effort to develop the specialty coffee market segment, FARO fulfilled a dream when it bought an impressive Diedrich coffee roaster.  With this piece of equipment, FARO can increase production capacity while improving quality. 

2017

FARO’s position as a specialized coffee roasting organisation is confirmed by Metro, one of the leading supermarket chains in the province. Today, Metro sells two different blends of FARO’s classic line of coffees. Click here to find a Metro supermarket near you.

 

More than 30 years have passed since the first shop opened, and since then the coffee world has changed dramatically. Gone are the days when baristas only served filter coffee. Today, more than ever, coffee is a world to discover — or rediscover. To better serve our customers, the entire Brûlerie team continues to hone its knowledge of all aspects of coffee, from farming to roasting to serving.
